How to help Haiti
A massive 7.3 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti near the Capital of Port-au-Prince on Tuesday January 12, 2010.  Damage is extensive and the number of injured or dead is estimated to be in the thousands.

Catholic Relief Services has been working in Haiti for more than fifty years and has pledged an initial 5 million dollars in earthquake relief over and above the annual 20 million dollars for hunger and poverty in the Caribbean's poorest nation of nine million people.  Immediate needs are for water, food, temporary shelter, bedding and medical supplies.

Please remember in your prayers the children and families devastated by this tragedy.  Donations can be made directly to Catholic Relief Services by using link above.  Please be generous and give what you can.

News Flash From Associate Press (AP).  Taxpayers will be able to write off charitable donations to Haiti earthquake relief efforts when they file their 2009 taxes this spring under a bill President Obama signed Friday January 22, 2010.

The measure sped through Congress, receiving final approval Thursday January 21, 2010.  Donations of money or property given between January 12 and February 28, 2010, qualify for this retroactive deduction.
