The Sacraments

ST. PANCRAS PARISH
2008 ~ SACRAMENTS ~ 2009

What Are The Sacraments?

The word "sacrament" derives from the Latin and means, literally, "something holy." For Christians, a sacrament is an outward sign of the presence of God, also referred to as "grace."

The Sacrament of Baptism is the first step in a lifelong journey of commitment and discipleship. Whether we are baptized as infants or adults, Baptism is the Church's way of celebrating and enacting the embrace of God.

The 4th weekend of the month: Saturday at Noon or Sunday following 11:30 Mass.  Parents must register for the Baptism at the Parish Office.  An Instructional Class for parents is held on the 2nd Sunday of month following attendance at the 11:30 am Mass.  Parents must be registered members of St. Pancras Parish and present the child's birth certificate to register for Baptism.

Catholics believe the Eucharist, or Communion, is both a sacrifice and a meal. We believe in the real presence of Jesus, who died for our sins. As we receive Christ's Body and Blood, we also are nourished spiritually and brought closer to God.

Couples should make arrangements with one of the priests at least six months in advance of the date and prior to making any other arrangements.

For Catholics, the Sacrament of Marriage, or Holy Matrimony, is a public sign that one gives oneself totally to this other person. It is also a public statement about God: the loving union of husband and wife speaks of family values and also God's values.
