Philosophy
of St. Pancras School The purpose of a Catholic School is to provide for the Religious Education Formation and Academic Education of the students. Parents, through baptism, accept the responsibility of forming their children into active, informed members of the community of Faith, both by what they say and through their actions. In choosing to send you child to St. Pancras School, we request that you thoughtfully consider the above statement. This is our Philosophy of Catholic Education. This must be a “lived experience” for each of our families. We do not merely exist to be an alternative to the Public Schools or for the academic excellence. We believe our primary reason for existence is for the Christian Formation of our students. Together with each family, we strive to achieve our goal. Our philosophy of “educating the whole child” addresses all the educational and formal needs of a growing child. It challenges the student’s sense of respect and compassion for his/her fellow human beings.
St. Pancras School identifies with the teachings of Jesus.
To teach as Jesus did … “Lord,
we do not know where we are going. How
can we know the way?” Jesus told him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the
life; no one comes to the Father but through me.”

As always, if New York City Department of Education Schools close, the Catholic elementary schools within the Diocese of Brooklyn will be closed. Please do not call the School office or the Parish Rectory. The captain of each class, kindly start the phone chain after hearing from the teacher. Honor Roll requirements have been expanded to four categories.
In order to qualify, the grades attained must be in each of five major subject areas: Religion, Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, and Science with no N's or U's on the report card with satisfactory attendance and punctuality. Please note that the Honor Roll for Grades 1-3 starts with the second trimester. The decision to retain a student is based upon a total evaluation of the student’s growth in all areas of development. In all grades K-8: Failure to complete school and homework assignments and projects, consistent inattention to classroom instructions and causing wasted time on task interruptions, or lack of preparedness for school assignments are criteria for retention. Trimester periods are from September-November,
December-March, and April-June. Grades
5-8 will have final exams in June. INTERIM
PROGRESS REPORTS will be sent home midway through each trimester to students who
are in danger of failing in grades 1-8. The
first and second report card is distributed within the context of a
parent-teacher conference. Each trimester grade for the report card is based upon the
following criteria: Evaluation is neither a numerical nor letter grade rating. Rather it is comprehension assessment of a student’s achievement arrived at after using a variety of measurement tools including:
Student of the Month: Each month Student of the Month Certificates are given to two students from each homeroom in grades 1-8. The purpose of these awards is to recognize students who are working to their potential on the following bases: setting a good example, and respecting adults, property, peers, and other students in school. No child may eat lunch in school unless a parent/guardian has completed the form requesting this priviledge! When permission is given to eat in school, the child MUST STAY EACH DAY. Students may not leave the school grounds to purchase lunch and they MUST remain on the school grounds throughout the entire lunch hour. Remember to send lunch with you child, no phone calls will be made – children will be asked to share. All students need to follow the lunchroom and school yard rules. If you wish to have your child leave the school during lunch, a written letter from the students’ parent/guardian will be required the first week of school. St. Pancras will not be responsible for any child who is instructed to go home for lunch. A signed contract by both the parent/guardian and the student will be on file in the school office. Once this contract is signed in September, the parent/guardian and child will abide to it throughout the school year. Early drop-off is available every day starting at 7:30 am. You have the option of either paying by the day or for an entire week. St. Pancras offers an After-School Program. Children may attend this program from the hours of 2:30 to 4:30 or 2:30 to 5:30. You have the option of either paying by the day or for an entire week. Children will be able to do their homework under the supervision of two teachers however, this is not a tutoring program. After completing their homework, the children are offered a snack and then are able to take part in supervised activities. Uniform

helps the child develop the concept that there are certain things in life
that one must accept. All uniform items are to be purchased from the
